SAVE THE DATE: Tonic - June 1, 2007

Long time, no blog. I promised myself that if I continued this blog after Lance’s death that I would try to not become too obnoxious and post about every nail broken or tear shed. Some very good things are happening, too. The first of two benefits in Lance’s memory has been confirmed in NYC for Friday, June 1, 2007 at the club Tonic. The show will feature many musicians from the downtown avant jazz and experimental scenes, all friends and collaborators of Lance’s. The show will benefit the Jazz Foundation of America, one of the musician aid charities that helped us while Lance was ill. The Jazz Foundation is very happy to be a part of the night and we expect the Executive Director, Wendy Oxenhorn, to come and say a few words.

The line up will include:

ROBERT MUSSO & FRIENDS: Robert Musso (guitar), Raoul Bjorkenhiem (guitar), Sim Cain (drums), Dave Dreiwitz (bass), Elliot Levin (sax), John Lunar Richey (words)

MEMBERS OF THE SONNY SHARROCK BAND: Charlie Baldwin (bass), Erik Lawrence (sax), Dave Snider (guitar), Abe Speller (drums)

HARRIET TUBMAN BAND: Brandon Ross (guitar), Melvin Gibbs (bass), JT Lewis (drums)

CHARLIE BURNHAM

PERCY JONES & TUNNELS: Percy Jones (bass), Marc Wagnon (vibes), Walker Adams (drums)

MARC RIBOT

ERIC MINGUS

ELLIOT SHARP’S TERRAPLANE: Elliot Sharp (guitar), Dave Hofstra (bass), Curtis Fowkles (trombone), Alex Harding (baritone sax), Tony Lewis (drums), Eric Mingus (vocals)

I will post more specifics as they are confirmed. Can't wait to see you all there!

The picture above was taken by Lance's bandmate and friend Eric Mingus. It was taken in May 2005 during a European tour with the band Terraplane. This tour turned out to be Lance’s last. Many thanks to Eric for passing it along. Also pictured are Elliot Sharp and Curtis Fowkles.

Lisa, your courage and spirit is stronger than ever *hugs* Whenever I see pictures of Lance, I see a man with so much life and beauty. He will never be forgotten -- not by you, his family, friends and fellow bloggers like me who feel blessed to know him through the cyberspace grapevine. You're doing a magnificent job, sweetie, at holding it together. Don't worry about trying to make this blog optimistic or less weepy. As your loyal reader, I want to know how *you* are doing, what you are feeling, and hopefully offer you support in any way I can. This blog, after all, is yours, Lisa. Thank you for continuing to write in it. Your heartfelt words always make me come back. God bless, Lisa. And thank you for your sweet e-mail. You're a wonderful woman who is so lovely in so many ways. I truly hope that time will mend all wounds and that eventually, we both find happiness again. We both deserve to, don't you think? *hugs*
